Picadillo

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground meat
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 6-8 large green olives, quartered
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 TBSP capers
  • 1 8z can Tomato sauce
  • 2 1/2 TBSP Sazon Seasoning
  • 1 TBSP Cumin
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • Salt to taste

Sazon Seasoning

  • 2 TBSP ground coriander
  • 2 TBSP ground cumin
  • 2 TBSP ground turmeric
  • 2 TBSP garlic powder
  • 4 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp onion powder

Directions

  1. In a large skillet over med-high heat; sauté garlic, onion and bell pepper in hot oil until softened, about 5-7 mins
  2. Add ground meat, cook until browned, about 7-10 mins
  3. Drain fat off
  4. Add olives, raisins, capers, tomato sauce, sazon seasoning, cumin, sugar and salt, mixing throughly.
  5. Cover skillet, reduce heat to low and simmer 5-10 mins
  6. Serve with rice

Notes:

I had a hard time finding the Sazon seasoning locally, here it is on Amazon. Or you can make your own with the recipe included above. Personally, I buy my Sazon seasoning.

I first had Picadillo at a Padrino’s Cuban restaurant in Miami and fell in love with it. I may have eaten there 3 times in 5 days because the food was so amazing. If you find yourself in the Hollywood Beach area, check them out. I was so excited when I mastered this recipe because I could share this amazing dish with others. It is perfect as the filling in empanadas.
